Things to Do & See

New Quay is a picturesque fishing village thriving on tourism in the summer months. Just walking up and down the terraces is interesting with many shops selling beautiful pictures and souvenirs, plus lots of beach ‘toys’; whilst the views to the bay, up and down the Ceredigion coast are breathtaking.

Beaches
New Quay has 3 sandy beaches.  The main beach has Blue-flag status and allows safe-swimming whilst being looked after by the lifeguards in high season.  The other two beaches are dog-friendly and fabulous for long walks, shell-hunting and rock-pooling. There is a nice cafe on the main beach, and public toilets and showers nearby.

Dolphins
New Quay is home to a large number of Bottlenose Dolphins and is one of the best places in the UK to observe these amazing wild creatures.  They are just beautiful to watch and although we can’t guarantee you will see them, most guests see them at some point during their stay.

Watersports: Cardigan Bay Watersports: Provides opportunities for power boating, sailing, youth sailing, kayaking and windsurfing, with sessions and courses available for all levels of ability.  For sailing courses do book ahead!  www.cardiganbaywatersports.org.uk, 01545 561257

Pubs, Cafes and Restaurants in New Quay

There are lots around the town that you will come across. Most serve good typical pub food. Here is a list of those we have visited and enjoyed:

  • The Black Lion is our closest pub being only 100yds away serving home-cooked food. It also has 2 great play-areas for kids whilst overlooking the bay; a perfect place for a drink at the end of the day!
  • Bosun’s Locker, Glanmore Terrace, New Quay, 01545 560792 – breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee and cakes – fabulous food and also a take-away service. This is the closest (and nicest) café to Water’s Edge
  • The Bluebell – deli and bistro, restaurant (fabulous food); 01545 560444
  • The Pepperpot Bar & Grill in New Quay (01545 560680) has freshly cooked and prepared food but you may need to book as it is very popular.
  • Hotel Penwig 01545 560910 – serves drinks and good food all day – nice place for a coffee, and excellent food, but again it gets very busy.
  • Dragon Palace, Chinese, Hill Street, New Quay, 01545 560175 – take-away only.
  • In Aberaeron, there is the Harbourmaster Hotel (tel 01545 5707550) which has had good national write-ups but is more expensive. If you want to eat here, you must phone ahead in advance.
  • Also in Aberaeron, The Cellar – great restaurant; 01545 574666
  • In Llangrannog is the Ship Inn (01239 654510) which serves freshly cooked food and is good for fish; also excellent for Sunday Lunch! Also the Beach Cafe serves excellent food and ice-cream.

Coastal Walk There is a beautiful coastal walk which runs the length of the Welsh Coast. It is breathtaking, but narrow in places so not suitable for pushchairs. You can go as far as you want along the coast.
